This course has been specifically developed to support speech pathology clinicians to gain theoretical and practice knowledge regarding the use of telepractice to provide paedatric feeding services.

Program Outline

The Telepractice Dysphagia Assessment Service is an eLearning program that provides information to managers and clinicians interested in establishing and conducting adult clinical swallowing evaluations via telepractice.

The telepractice model of care described in this program has been developed, tested and validated through research conducted by the Centre for Research in Telerehabilitation, The University of Queensland and the Speech Pathology & Audiology Department, The Royal Brisbane & Women’s Hospital in Queensland, Australia.

The eLearning program provides guidance on service implementation as well as training for key staff on their roles and responsibilities within the service. Three packages have been developed to support this:

  1. Service implementation package - for the Speech Pathology Manager
  2. Training package for the clinical speech pathologist
  3. Training package for the healthcare support worker

The packages aim to provide guidance on service implementation as well as training for key staff on their roles and responsibilities within the telepractice dysphagia assessment service. Information provided in these packages has been based on current published evidence, national, state and discipline specific guidelines and documents. Within each package, written information is supplemented by relevant photos, videos and service documentation.
