This workshop will review current assessment practices and the evidence base for dysarthria treatment in adult populations. Clinicians will be guided through treatment techniques and how to apply principles of motor learning and neuroplasticity to dysarthria management.

Learning objectives

Upon successful completion of this workshop, participants will be able to

  • discuss current assessment practises in the management of dysarthria in adults.
  • identify evidence based treatments for dysarthria in adulthood.
  • apply principles of motor learning and neuroplasticity to a range of treatment techniques.
  • evaluate best practice options for dysarthria management across different service delivery models and settings.

Who should attend

Registrants must be speech pathologists.

Speech pathology students who have undertaken relevant lectures coursework or clinical placements are welcome to attend. 

Presenter

  

Professor Adam Vogel
Professor Adam Vogel is head of speech pathology in the School of Health Sciences at the University of Melbourne and an Australian Research Council Future Fellow. His research is focused on improving speech language and swallowing function in people with progressive and acquired neurological conditions.

Adam holds a PhD in a behavioural neuroscience from the University of Melbourne and a degree in psychology and speech science from the University of Queensland. Adam is a Humboldt Fellow at the Hertie Institute for Clinical Brain Research, Tuebingen, Germany. Concurrently, he is Chief Science Officer of Redenlab Inc, a neuroscience technology company using speech and language biometrics to enhance decision making in clinical trials. Redenlab work with pharmaceutical companies across 25 countries and 300 plus sites globally.
