Presenters

Professor Alison Purcell
Alison Purcell is a certified practising speech pathologist and the inaugural Professor of Speech Pathology in the School of Health, Western Sydney University, Australia. Alison’s teaching and research is designed to improve outcomes for children that have lifelong communication difficulties resulting from congenital structural differences such as hearing impairment, cleft palate, childhood apraxia of speech and FASD.

Alison’s research is internationally recognised and has changed how speech pathologists treat children with lifelong communication disorders. Alison’s research has been used by the World Health Organization to inform policy for childhood hearing loss and translated into policy changes for Australian Aboriginal children. More recently, Alison’s research has targeted how to improve the structural inequities that many children with communication difficulties encounter.
