Our 2024 age-category shortlist is out. Congratulations to the shortlisted publishers, authors and illustrators of the 2024 Speech Pathology Australia Book of the Year Awards.

Judging is now underway and we'll be announcing the 2024 winners at the end of October.

 

About the Awards

Literacy is based on good oral language skills. The Speech Pathology Australia Book of the Year Awards celebrates quality Australian books that help children get the best, most literate start in life. 

The Awards:

  • promote quality Australian children’s literature
  • enhance awareness of the role speech pathologists play in language and literacy development
  • encourage a love of reading.
 
Categories

Books are awarded as the best book for language and literacy development in the following categories:

  • Age-related award categories
    • Birth to three years
    • Three to five years
    • Five to eight years
    • Eight to 10 years
  • Decodable Book Series Award
  • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children’s Book Award
 
 

Judging criteria

Each book is judged on its appeal to children, interactive quality and ability to assist speech pathologists and parents in communication and literacy development. View the shortlisting and judging criteria.
