Membership categories

CERTIFIED PRACTISING MEMBER

A suitably qualified person engaged in the activities of speech pathology as a practitioner, administrator, educator, researcher or any combination thereof, for which they receive payment, and who meets the ongoing requirements of the Certification Program.

NON-PRACTISING MEMBER

A suitably qualified person not engaged in the activities of speech pathology as a practitioner, administrator, educator, researcher or any combination thereof, nor receiving remuneration for speech pathology activities.

STUDENT MEMBER

A person currently studying an accredited Australian entry level speech pathology course.

NON-CERTIFIED MEMBER

A suitably qualified person engaged in the activities of speech pathology as a practitioner, administrator, educator, researcher or any combination thereof, for which they receive payment who has been previously eligible for Certified Practising Speech Pathologist status, however no longer meets the requirements of the Certification Program.

RE-ENTRY MEMBER

A person suitably qualified in speech pathology who has been eligible for Practising membership status (up to 2015), or full Certified Practising Speech Pathologist (CPSP) status (2016 onwards) within the past fifteen years, but has not met the recency of practice requirements within the past 3 years.

ALUMNUS MEMBER

A person who has ceased speech pathology practice but has held membership of the Association in the past for at least ten years.

Fees

These fees will be reflected when renewals open in June. For those who only require certification, there is an option to hold Certified Practising Speech Pathologist (CPSP) status without membership. This is available at a fee of $608 inc. GST and does not include access to member services, benefits or voting rights.

• Members studying fulltime in a speech pathology related PhD, research Master’s degree or postgraduate diploma pay a reduced fee of $308 (evidence of Postgraduate study is required when choosing this category)
• Any person joining or renewing mid membership period will be required to pay backdated fees to the beginning of the membership period. Pro-rated membership fees are not permitted.
• A re-joining fee of $44 is applicable after 31 August 2025 (excluding student members)
• New graduates applying for provisional Certified Practising membership between 1 December 2025 and 31 May 2026 will receive an 18 month membership (1 January 2026 to 30 June 2027) which will cost $924 (1.5x the annual Certified Practising membership fee)

I would prefer to pay in instalments. How do I do this?

Members can choose to pay their fees in instalments through our recurring payment option. Simply select the instalment option when renewing your membership online.

I'm taking a career break. What are my options?

I'm a provisional member. How do I progress to full certification?

Provisional Certification is a transitional status prior to a speech pathologist progressing to Full Certification. Within 3 years of completing your course, you will need to complete the provisional requirements. Check out our provisional certification page.
