Your perspectives shaped this:
SPA’s 2026–2028 Strategic Plan

In 2025, members across Australia told us clearly what you need from SPA: practical support, clearer communication, stronger advocacy, better representation, and more confidence in what the future holds for the profession.

The 2026–2028 Strategic Plan is SPA’s and the Board’s response to your feedback.

It sets out the priorities that will guide how we strengthen the value we deliver to you, support the future of the profession, and build a more responsive Association over the next 3 years.

Hear from our CEO, Lyn Brodie, about how your feedback has shaped this strategy and what it means for you.

What we heard

The development of our strategy was informed by national consultation with members across all state and territories in Australia, in person and online. Through that consultation, members told us they want SPA to deliver greater practical value, communicate more clearly, advocate more strongly, represent the profession more effectively, and help build confidence in its future.

You also told us that the profession is operating in a changing environment, and that SPA needs to be more responsive, focused and clear about where it is heading.

That feedback has directly shaped the priorities in this strategy and the direction we will take over the next 3 years.

How we’re responding

Your feedback has directly shaped the priorities in this strategy and the direction we will take over the next three years.

It also reflects a clearer commitment to advocacy and reform, including work to elevate the value and impact of speech pathology and lead reform towards national regulation.

The strategy is also designed to support members in a changing practice environment by helping strengthen future readiness, access and equity across the profession.

And it recognises that delivering on these commitments requires a strong organisation behind the scenes, with high-performing operations, governance excellence, financial sustainability and innovation as enablers of member value. These 4 strategic priorities will guide SPA’s work from 2026 to 2028 and provide the framework for delivering on the commitments set out in this strategy.

Our strategic priorities bring together the key areas that will shape how we support members, and advocate for the profession. It also represents an Association and Board that is working to be more responsive, more accountable, and better equipped to deliver on its commitments. At its core, this strategy is about ensuring SPA stays focused on what matters most to you and to the future of the profession.

Where we go from here

We know that setting a strategy is only part of the job. It is equally important to show that strategy in action.

The strategy is in place to guide our direction, grounded in what members told us. We will continue to communicate clearly on the initiatives we are progressing and how they align to the strategic pillars.

This work is already taking shape

A better online experience
A major website redevelopment project is in progress to create a clearer, more user-friendly experience for members.

Stronger practical support
We’re expanding the support available to members through new partnerships to help with day-to-day practice and navigating a changing external environment.

An easier renewal experience
We’ve reviewed the renewal process and are implementing changes to make it simpler for members.

More practical CPD learning
We’re working to strengthen CPD so it feels more practical, relevant and valuable. Learning completed via the Learning Hub will now automatically carry across into your CPD Log on MySPA.

This strategy has been shaped by what you told us matters most. Now it will guide how we move forward, for you, for SPA, and for the future of the profession.
